Expectations and Pre-Trip Thoughts on Melbourne.

Hi guys,

Sorry for the late post due to my CCA camp. The trip to Melbourne is just round the corner, in a blink of an eye November shall fly past and December would arrive. Personally i am very excited for this trip as this is my first school sponsored leadership trip to a university/college in a foreign country.

My Expectations :

~ I expect to forge new bonds both locally with the 12 of us and of course with the many other foreign students from all over the world.
~ I hope to expand my horizons by learning the cultures of not just Melbourne but other nations in the world via the many foreign students attending the Summer School.
~ I wish to gain better knowledge and enrich my life experience via this useful programme.
~ Lastly lets all just have fun and enjoy ourselves!

My Preparations :
~ As it is my first time visiting Australia and also my first "open house" to a college/university. I am prepared to adapt to the many changes that differs from Singapore, in both education and culture.
~Together with my buddy,Dun Kai, we have done research on both the culture and education of Melbourne. As Australia is more of a western country, their people and culture will differ from our Asian values, henceforth i am prepared to adopt a new outlook to a western style of education and culture compared to our eastern Asian mentality.
~Lastly, I am prepared to learn to rely on myself more instead of others, only by being independent can we start to take care of others. And of course, a 17D16N trip to Melbourne will definitely requires us to look out and take care of one another.

For me, i am definitely looking forward to a night shopping spree in the Victoria Night Market, a taste of Chinese food in Chinatown, rock climbing & belaying, and of course the local AFL Football game(hopefully its not cancelled). As for "Trinity's got Talent" i am prepared to perform a basic routine of WuShu, however i have not confirmed whether to perform or not. At the end of the day, i am sure we would all enjoy ourselves and at the same time benefit in ways more than one from this exciting Summer School.

P.S: Theres really no Chilli? B'Coz i'll definitely miss Chilli. xD

hey everyone!

during this trip, i hope to better understand the education system in melbourne. From what i have researched on, i realised that singapore and melbourne have similar education system- both have 12years of education. The difference is that Singapore mainly offers boarding school to universities but in melbourne, they offer it to college students as well. Although we might face problems here and there, I know that its gonna be a great experience! We have to learn to be independent as our parents are not there to help us in everything we do. I would like to make friends with the participents of the camp. This is a great opportunity to find out more about the cultures and lifestyles of other countries. I am excited about the outings during the camp, rock climbing and all. It all sounds like fun! Hopefully, i will gain much from this trip and be able to apply whatever that i am going to learn in the near future. Really looking forward to the trip! May all of us have fun! :DDD

Thoughts Before Going

Hey there!

Being one of the few lucky chosen ones, I felt really honored to participate in this trip to Melbourne. I have never been abroad for as long as half a month, so this trip would be one I'll really remember.
Through this two-weeks program, I hope to know more about Australia and at the same time, to get to make new friends from all over the world.

Having read many facts and stuff about Melbourne through the internet, I cant wait to experience it for myself. This is also my very first time I would be visiting the Trinity College. The activities specially lined up for us are all very stimulating. With the talks and workshops, I'm sure we would learn and benefit a lot from it. I'll be also looking forward to visiting certain places of interest, such as the Queen Victoria Market and also the Chinatown over there.

Through this half-a-month excursion, I hope to become more independent and have the ability to take care of ourselves and our buddy, and also progress as a more competent self. Last and most importantly, I desire to become a better person as a whole, and also understand a whole lot more about myself.

Pre Trip Thoughts

Hey guys, 2 weeks before the trip and we are all researching on Melbourne. Whatever information that i have found on the internet certainly has made me more eager to visit the country. As this is the first time I would be visiting a university, it would definitely be an eye opener for me. Therefore, I would hope to gain the most out of this trip to the Trinity College. The activities that have been installed for us not only gives us the opportunity to speak up, but also time to bond with our fellow NASians. Although i may have been classmates with some of the participants, I certainly hope that this trip would allow us to get together and learn more from each other. Also, being able to interact with teenagers from different countries allows us to have insight of how lessons are conducted in their own country and therefore, I would like to seek the opportunity to communicate and get to the rest better. With all this thoughts running through my mind, I really can't wait to fly off to Melbourne!

hi all :)
i feel really lucky to have been approached to go for this trip as i think that this is a rare chance to experience the education system and way of life in Australia. Although i don't have any close friends going along with me on this trip, this in turn helps to create an opportunity for me to make new, and possibly, closer friends, starting with my buddy, Germaine :)
I will be able to interact with students from other countries as well.
For me, I have been to Australia before and have experienced the climatic conditions of summer in the country, so i'm not really worried about not being able to adapt to the weather conditions at Australia.
I'm looking forward to travelling abroad with fellow schoolmates whom which i hope i can become friends with after this two-week trip. :)
I'm also looking forward to the activities planned out for us at the college and the talent time sessions there as well.
As of now, i'm pondering over song choices for our performance...
Practice dates should be within a week to our departure date for Australia i guess.
I hope that we will be able to do well for the performance on the actual day. :D
After this trip, i hope to become a more efficient worker and to become a better person with regards to my priorities, values and principles. Also, to become a leader that is worthy of the trust of the people around me.
I'm sure i will have a great time at Australia and i hope the others will too! :)

I felt quite lucky to be one of those who are been chosen to go for this 2 weeks trip. Not knowing anyone in this trip make me felt rather lonely and hopefully i will be able to know all of them through this trip too make new friends from other countries. We are told to do some research on Melbourne and which will be compile into a handbook that should be useful to us. In this trip, I would experience life in a college and the education system in Australia. This trip will be a useful one as we may learn things that we could not learn in Singapore. We will have to be independent and take care of ourselves as our family will not be there to help us. After this trip, I hope to become a more confident speaker and a more independent person.

Expectations and preparation of trip

Hi guys this is Dun Kai, i am really looking forward to this trip as it is a great opportunity for us to experience what university life is like in Australia, Melbourne. I think i am really lucky to be one of the ten students to be chosen for this trip. I hope i can get to make lots of new friends and get better social skills at the end of the trip. I hope i get a good and friendly mentor to guide us along in this two week program. I think this trip will help to get better leadership skills and allow me to bond closer to my friends who are going there. I wonder is life stressful for the students studying in the university, i guess i will finding that out for myself. As for preparation for the trip, we had prepared research on Melbourne and their culture there. All of our research will be combined into a handbook by our teacher and this handbook will help us on our trip. On top of that we will be preparing our clothes and things that will be bringing to Melbourne. I had never been overseas from my family on such a long period of time and i am really looking towards it. This trip will also teach us to take care of ourselves and our friends who are going there as our parents will not be accompanying us there. There is a lot of activities prepared for us there and this trip will not be as relaxing as I thought but in the end, all of this will benefit us the most. Lastly, I hope we can have lots of fun and experience new things together in Australia, Melbourne!

Pre-trip.

Victoria

It's about 2 weeks before the trip and recently, we've been tasked to research on Melbourne. Reading up its history and facts about it made me look forward to the trip. As a rather westernized country, Australia's education would, of course, differs from Singapore's. Therefore, going to Trinity college not only allows me to experience life as a college student, but allows me to see the different subjects offered overseas and the studying styles of the students there. I hope that from this trip, firstly, I'll be able to be a better leader, with better skills for public speaking. Secondly, I hope to gain experience from this trip and to be independent. Thirdly, with the mentors from the college, I hope to gain more insight in many aspects so as to widen my horizen of knowledge. Also through this trip to Melbourne, it would be nice to make as many friends as I can. Being able to meet teens from different countries would certainly allow me to learn many things that a classroom does not provide. What is most important, is that from the trip, I hope to grow into a leader that can serve the school and the community, and to seek as much knowledge to aid me in becoming a better person in future. Lastly, I hope to have fun at the college and in Melbourne! :)

Hi guys,

I am hourned to have this opportunity to be able to attend this intensive two-week program at Young Leaders Summer School. From this leadership training that I will be attending, I wish that my weaknesses will be overcome. I’m excited to build understanding and friendships with other young people from across the global. So that I came bring some experience back home/school to teach my friends and family. I am looking forward to some extracurricular activities that will be organized like: rock-climbing challenge, a visit to queen Vitoria market, etc. I’m ready to visit this trinity college at Melbourne.

Hey guys,

Germaine here.
For the past few days or rather weeks, we all have been preparing for the Melbourne trip. Simply, I've just done some research online to get to know about the education and I'm quite surprised that they have CCAs too. hahas :D And of course more about australia. I've also ask people that have went to australia before about what it is like there. We've done our researches to know more about melbourne and personally, I hope that this trip will be fun because from all the comments I see from the Young Leaders Summer School website they are all pretty positive. So I really am hoping to have a great tym, get to know lots of friends and of course learn many more things.

I'm really afraid about the rock climbing. I hope it'll be good. Since I'm not an atheletic person. Hahas :D My expectations from the trip will be :
  1. That it'll be fun!
  2. I'll get to learn more about college life
  3. I'll get to know all of you better
  4. I'll get to know more friends!
  5. I'll learn more things about being a leader. (Since it's a Young Leaders summer school) :)
  6. Hopefully, I'll gain more confidence!

That's pretty much that I'll expect. Hope we'll all have a great time!

Germaine :)
