Day 5

Hey all!:) Well, it's my turn to blog today and I'll just try to make it snappy but detailed. Firstly, we had 2 lectures in the morning again. Though it may sound boring, but it surely was a fruitful one as it gave us an insight of the possibe courses. The first lecture today was about aeronautical engineering. Basically, we had an overview of how airplanes had developed over the years and how many of the founders of aerospace. Through an example from the wright brothers, as a leader, we should have the determination to persevere after failures. I felt that instead of taking the failure as a unsuccessful experiment, they were right to take it as a learning point to try and improve on their design.

Secondly, the lecture on physiology was rather boring though. We were introduced to medical study and had a brief insight of how injuries develop and their cures. During the lecture, even though many of us seem restless, I could see that the lecturer was trying his very best to get our attention back. This was a good point to take as a leader should always try to get the audience to interact more.

Moving on to the last activity, we were taken to the Queen Victoria Market where we had some free time to shop. During which, we were slightly unreasonable to a shopkeeper as we ordered something from the shopkeeper and only to cancel the order. We eventually felt guilty and decided to continue on with the order. From this, we can learn that a leader should be decisive as any slight mistake may lead to unthinkable consequences.

After the debrief, we have learnt that we should really be able to make decisions fast as a lapse in concentration can lead to a big mess. Therefore, we have to make quick and decisive moves in times of emergency and not panick during such situations.

That's all for today... Good night guys and girls:)

  1. It is true that today's program is pretty dull compared to the previous days. Theres only two lectures in the morning followed by a short astrophysics talk.

I agree there is much to learn about decisions making in being a leader, and through the aerospace lecture i grasp the gist that we need to constantly improve ourselves and strive to become better in any thing we do.

I have realise that debrief has benefited us alot in these few days as it really give us the chance to think deeper and allow ourselves to broaden our horizons and know what others think.

With that, g'night everyone and Ben.

  2. hi, haha i was sleeping halfway through those lecture... it was boring even though the topic may be exciting.

Ya.. we really made things difficult for the shopkeeper as we had them to order down the goods and we are leaving because we later found out that we are late. I think as a leader we had to manage our time well and make sure we have enough time for everything.

I shall end with that... good night [btw who is doing today(10 dec)is it me?]

  3. I agree with jing yi, i think the debreif is really useful as if let us know what we experienced today and what every one of us has learned today and it also allows us to better understand each other and how each of us thinks

I hope to observe and learn new things tomorrow and i was really suprised i had something to say for the debrief today as today was pretty boring.

Well thats about the end and i hope there are more new things that are waiting for us to learn and experience during this trip. well goodnight.

  4. Hi..
I feel that yesterday's activities were kind of boring. i tried my best to stay awake during the first lecture, but i was constantly dozing off to sleep during the second lecture. However, i noticed that his slides only consisted of main points and not chunks of information. So, he managed to talk about the topic just by using the main points alone, which i think is pretty impressive. However, he could have added a bit of trivia in his presentation and interact with the audience.

I didn't really enjoy the trip to Queen Victoria Market. It's because it was extremely crowded and everything was just too expensive there. So i was just walking around aimlessly.

I feel that i did let my emotions affect my mood yesterday. I'm sorry if my actions or behaviour has affected any one else. So, from today onwards, i'll try my best to control my emotions better. :)

Thank you all for the shirt. :)
gd morning and have a pleasant day ahead! :DD

  5. Hellos!
I think I agree with both Jing Yi and Dun Kai that due to the briefing every night we have started to notice more about the surroundings already. So it's something good :) Because even if we have nothing to talk about we'll rack our brains to recap what happened and reflect. Which is good:)
I agree with benedict for saying that a leader must make quick decision because like yesterday when we told the shopkeeper we didn't want the t-shirts anymore, they seemed pretty angry because they had specially gotten people to bring the shirt down. So other than making quick decisions I think that we should make good decisions like considering the consequences before actually making a decision because the consequence does not only affect you.
Basically, that's what I wanted to say. So I'll end here. Bye! :)
Hope everbody have a nice day today!:D

  6. Hi everyone,

Fistly, in the morning we had two lectures. The first lecture was on Aeronautical Engieering. I enjoyed this talk because i have taken away how leaders change from one generation to another. This relates back to how the planes evolve throughout the ages.

I agree with jia hui that we must control our emotions as a leader. This has been always brought up during briefing by teachers. And if we don't control our emotions then we will have a hard time leading and communicating with the follows.

See you guy tomorrow! Good Night!
