Day 9

Hi all, today we had amazing race and shopping. I will just focus on what happen in my group during the amazing race. There were two boys who had sprained their legs during the amazing race and therefore they could not run fast to the checkpoints. There was one girl who was telling us to hurry up and run although knowing their situation. After one of the checkpoints, the girl told the guys who are injured to report injury and not participating in this race. I feel that those words that come out from her mouth was really hurtful to them as she was like indirectly telling them not to be a burden of the group. At that point of time, the boys agreed to stay behind and not participate in the race but the mentor disagree. I regretted of not helping them when the girl said that to them as they were in a very uneasy position to tell the girls that they want to continue. I think I should have helped them instead of sitting down there seeing how things progress. I hope I would not allow this to happen to my friends again.

  1. If we want to build a good team, we must always consider all our team members. The desire to win must not over-shadow the care and committment a leader demonstrates towards his/her team members. There will always be many other opportunities to win in games and competitions.

The experience you related reminded me of the old saying "You are only as good as your weakest link." Think of that quote in terms of a relay race. You may have 3 good runners but the 4th is slow. That 4th runner is your weakest link and may cause you to lose the race. Furthermore, you cannot complete the race with 3 runners. Therefore, the team must help and level up its weakest link to be strong.

There is some lesson here for your personal application as a student too. In terms of school, suppose you like to write. You are good at introductions and conclusions. You use proper spelling. You make good points. But, your grammar is bad and you make really bad mechanical mistakes like run-on sentences. Your grammar is your weakest link and will always bring you down in your English grade.

In both situations, the goal is to improve your weakest link to make the situation (race, essay, whatever) stronger.
